EAT: HARLEM PIZZA CO. ARRIVING ON 116TH

A Bespoke tip came in that a new pizzeria has taken over the old Il Forno space on 116th Street just west of Lenox Avenue.  Harlem Pizza Co. definitely has some smart graphics but unique pies that stand out will be the true test for the business.  There are a lot of standard pizza chains in Harlem already so anything up market needs to really not just sell the basics and be somewhat affordable at the same time.  Further north on Lenox, another boutique pizzeria which has also been planned will face the same challenge: LINK

  1. any one ever figure out why Il Forno went out of business? I thought their pies were fine, their prices acceptable. They were quite pleasant. Another pizza joint is heading in so it can’t be the location. . .

  2. SM - Agree about Il Forno and we used to order from them regularly when we wanted "normal" pizza instead of something fancier aka bad horse.
I did notice it went downhill a lot at the end but not sure which came first then chicken or the egg. At any rate I think a place that sells slices and whole pies that isn't a chain could do well. One doesn't always want more unique offerings like bad horse or custom fuel.

  3. If my memory serves me correctly, the previous pizza shop was owned by the same guy who owns Zoma. He's a great guy. I wonder if he is the owner of this new pizza place, or if someone else came along.
