DWELL: 17 EAST 128TH STREET IN CONTRACT

Harlem's oldest townhouse still in residential use at 17 East 128th Street went up on the market back in  March for $3.7 million and now has a contract out.  The official New York City Landmark built in 1864 located east of Fifth Avenue has retained a single-family layout and much of its original details within which is quite extraordinary for a wood frame house uptown.  If the final closing price is anywhere near the asking, the porch front home will definitely set a record for East Harlem and be one of the more notable sales uptown for 2015.  More on Streeteasy: LINK

  2. Here's to stupidity. Our house was the exact one to this. In fact I use to bpoint out how they were alike. Ours was 9 west 128 street. I hated it. Afraid it might catch fire and burn and kill y family. Finally in 1978 I got my way and got my family out. Stopped paying everything. Bums started sneaking in once I took my dog away. NYc after threatening us decided to take it down as a fire hazard. The plt is still there, though empty. I definitely didn't have the forsight that one day it could be worth something. Hope my kids don't see this cause they never wanted to leae it. SGod my stupidity.

  3. I'm stupid. we owned 9 west 128 st. Th sister house to this one. I convinced my family to walk away. I was always afraid of fire and it being wood thoought it could kill my family. My kids wanted to stay but I put myself in a tizzy as to why we needed to leave. God how stupid I was. I opould have stayed and fixed any problems but didn't think of that then. The lot is still their but the house is gone.

  4. I used to live across the street from this house and my friends and I played hide and go seek many a summer night on their porch. When I was a kid an older white couple owned this house....I remember them as kind people. Thanks for a wonderful memory!
