Harlem Bespoke: We noticed this spring that wooden bird sculptures have taken over locations of the Broadway corridor on the west side within the center street malls. Artist Nicolas Holiber created 9 works of art out of reclaimed wood that features endanger bird avian species and the Snowy owl can be found at the intersection of 148th Street which is quite significant. The west side of Hamilton Heights used to be the surrounding land of the John James Audubon estate when most of Harlem was still considered Manhattan's country side. More recently the neighborhood has been celebrating the ornithologist with murals of various bird species on storefronts or the sides of residential buildings and the sculptures are a nice compliment to the local love of history. Those interested can discover more on the famous Audubon estate in our past post: LINK
