FILMING: SAN JUAN HILL IN HARLEM
Harlem Bespoke: Film permits for "San Juan Hill" have been posted all over Harlem in the past week and a Bespoke reader sent in the above photos from this morning from the corner of 113th by Adam Clayton Powell. This is a massive production and vintage 1950s buses can be seen on the streets along with extras in period costume have been photograph on set. We took a photo further north on St. Nicholas Avenue this week of a mural for a boxing club written in Spanish and everyone pretty much suspects that that San Juan Hill is the code name for Steven Speilberg's West Side story which is currently filming uptown.
West Side story was set in the old San Juan Hill neighborhood on the Upper West Side but the prewar tenements were torn down by the 60s to make make way for Lincoln Center so everything kind of makes sense with the fake moniker. Check out the aforementioned murals in our past post from this week: LINK
