Harlem Bespoke: Yesterday WWD reported that Tommy Hilfiger will be presenting the Fall 2019 ready-to-wear spectacle at the Apollo on September 8th of this year. The American brand has been showcasing diversity but has been presenting in Europe for the past season so this would make a little more sense as far as the press goes. Harlem has quietly become a fashion destination for these types of presentations since British bespoke designer Ozwald Boeteng presented his first women's collection at the historic venue in May in celebration of the 100 anniversary of the Harlem Renaissance.
Mr. Boeteng was also the former creative director at Givenchy and the first black designer to head up a couture house in Paris so having the show in Harlem was also symbolic in many ways. Back in 2017, Stella McCartney also arrived from England to showcase the pre-fall collection at the Cotton Club in January of that year while New York designer Alexander Wang had a runway show at the abandoned RKO theater in Hamilton Heights just a month after the Anglo exposition: LINK
