ARCHITECTURE: A STOOP RETURNS TO SUGAR HILL
Harlem Bespoke: Some of the grand St. Nicholas Avenue townhouses on Sugar Hill just north of 145th Street had major stoops out front but have been altered in the past century or so. Stoops out front have mostly been removed from all of the barrel front brownstones on the west side of the boulevard but one current home renovation apparently is restoring everything back to the original condition. We took a photo of the work behind the plywood on a recent walk and noticed that the infrastructure of the steps has now been set. Since this is a landmark area of the neighborhood, the finished work will probably match what was there originally and this will be the first restoration of this kind in the area. Check out what the entryway previously looked like in our past post: LINK
