ARCHITECTURE: ROOFTOP REVEAL AFTER FIRE
Harlem Bespoke: Possibly the last wood frame house below 125th Street caught on fire last month at 217 West 123rd Street and the aftermath has revealed a hidden architectural detail. Apparently the roofline was boxed offed in the past to safely encase the aging design details at the top of the house instead of a full restoration. Workers were tearing down the burnt pieces last week and a slanted mansard roof with slate tiles was revealed. A majority of the said tiles were removed by hand by the end of the afternoon and we assume much of the top section has been dismantled by now. This type of house is quite rare in Manhattan but further up north a fully restored one sold in the not too distant past: LINK
