PREVIEW: UPTOWN TRIENNIAL 2020 AT THE WALLACH

Uptown Triennial 2020, on view through December 4th, 2020 at the Wallach gallery, 615 West 125th Street, west of Broadway.  The Uptown Triennial 2020 exhibition, the second iteration in the series, presents the work of contemporary artists in dialogue with the Harlem Renaissance, a defining moment in American modernism and African-American cultural history, during its centennial year.

Because of the pandemic, this show is unfortunately closed off to public and those with a Columbia University I.D. can only register to view the exhibit by booking time slots in advance.  We have a connection at Columbia who took the above photos during the opening weekend so can provide a glimpse of the spectacular show.   The multi media presentation probably has the largest collection of black artwork to be shown in one room since the Studio Museum has been shut down during this time period.  Local Harlem residents such as LeRone Wilson has sculptural wax pieces on display and also Jordan Casteel (MTA, 2018, oil on Canvas) who made history this month by having another recent painting as the cover of the Vogue September issue.   For more details on this exhibit, check out the official Wallach site: LINK
