Harlem Bespoke: It has not been a great year for McDonald's on Broadway since another location has closed on the corner of 138th Street. The freestanding one in Manhattanville at 125th Street had shuttered last September but this current situation is quite unique since it reveals some interesting old architecture that might have been missed initially. Corinthian column bas-reliefs at the top of building bookend a pediment with an engraving set in which can be seen better from across the street.
Gotham Theatre was the original name of the building about a century ago but would eventually changed to the Del-Mar cinema by 1937 and the closed down by the 1960s or so. The address has since been divided into several commercial spaces and now one more is currently available. We originally posted a photo from the 1940s earlier on in the week which revealed that the historic site had a lot of windows which now has been totally blocked up: LINK
