QUESTION: WHAT HAPPENED TO 59 WEST 128TH?

Harlem Bespoke:  We had posted recently one of our archival house photos on the blog and received an email inquiring on where this location could possibly be.  The photo of one of the rare wood frame houses left in the city was taken 6 six years ago at 59 West 128th Street between Fifth and Lenox but now things look a lot different.
The entire building was demolished back in 2016 and construction started up on a new development a couple of years later.  We would have preferred a full restoration of the historic property but at least the new apartments are not too severely modern for this part of the neighborhood.  With all that said, a restored wood frame house down the street sold for $3.6 million in the recent past so the effort does pay off at the end: LINK
