BESPOKE DIARIES: FOUR STOPS TO TRADER JOE'S

Harlem Bespoke: Our first article on the demand for Trader Joe's in Harlem was posted 8 years ago since so many readers had been talking about it. We pointed out also in that past post that it would take a Whole Foods to happen for TJ's to arrive in the neighborhood and that day did arrive in 2017.  As many know by now, Trader Joe's will be arriving soon at a location just across the street from Whole Foods but construction for that new building will take a couple of years to finish at the least.

Surprisingly enough, Trader Joe's is already actually a short trip aways from the Harlem Whole Foods but it appears that a lot of folks do not really know how to get there at this point in time.  We actually had to go to Whole Foods on 125th Street on a recent weekend for a specialty ingredient and had a Trader's Joes bag with us and a woman asked if TJ's was nearby.  This exchange happened outside while in line and we just pointed to the subway entrance in front of the supermarket.  It only takes four stops on 2 or 3 line at 125th Street to get Trader's at 72nd Street and both train entrances are directly in front of each perspective store.

This is basically like an 8 minute trip on the subway, so the savings is worth the train fare if you add everything up.  We actually see a lot TJ bags from Harlem commuter on the Broadway line further west which is a much slower 1 local train but for some reason Central Harlem shoppers have not yet realized that the super fast express train on Lenox is actually even a quicker way to get to the popular shopping destination.  More on the arrival of the future Harlem Trader Joe's in our past post: LINK
