Harlem Bespoke: What is going on with the former Bierstrasse location at 12th Avenue and West 133rd Street? We were first to report activity at the shuttered Manhattanville location in March and the newly painted colors have since encompassed all of the brickwork but now there is new signage that spells out Cantina. Is this the name of the restaurant? Cantina is actually a local taco spot with two addresses in Harlem and one planned for Frederick Douglass Boulevard but a fourth location seems to be stretch for this short amount of time.
A Bespoke reader emailed us and mentioned that the owner of this new eatery said that they were not related to the current Cantina restaurants in Harlem so everything here is still quite confusing. Maybe this sign is just an indicator of the type of establishment and not an actual moniker. A cantina is typically a Spanish bar of sorts so Mexican food does not necessarily have to be on the menu but Latin fare should be the order of the day. More on this Bierstrasse location can be found in our past post: LINK
