Harlem Bespoke: The checkout line at the Harlem Whole Foods on 125th and Lenox was notoriously congested for quite some time now on any visit but we noticed this week that there was an absence of a queue at the cashier area and wondered what was going on. It turns out that this uptown location has now adopted the express self-checkout model that many downtown Whole Foods have in place and thus eliminating the wait time for someone at the cash register to manually process each purchase. There currently a dozen self-checkout machines on the left half of the formerly cumbersome part of the storefront and one of the store workers is always on hand to direct folks though this much quicker payment option. We will definitely be stopping by more to get harder to find goods at the local Whole Foods now that the main shopper traffic flow issue has been resolved.
