Harlem Bespoke: An article in Forbes touts that the first Lidl in Manhattan that debuted in Harlem on Frederick Douglass by 118th Street this February is a resounding success. The super discount supermarket spent $5 million to renovate the former Best Yet Market and it all paid off. The alternative to Trader Joe's which opens nearby next year might just have stolen some of the competitor's thunder since more shoppers will be familiar with this location now especially since inflation has food prices skyrocketing recently. We definitely go to Whole Foods on 125th Street for harder to find groceries but would rather go to Lidl for high quality, everyday goods. As the article points out, shoppers can save $50 on basically the same items between the two stores which is a lot to consider when on a budget.
