THE AFRICAN AMERICAN CULINARY QUILT AT MOFAD

Harlem Bespoke: The Museum of Food and Drink (MOFAD) had its first temporary home in Williamsburg Brooklyn back in 2015 but moved to Harlem in February to launch the African/American: Making of the Nation's Table exhibit at the Africa Center.  We finally dropped by during the Museum Mile Festival and was thoroughly impressed just by the huge quilt featuring black chefs of American history.

This piece of art is in itself worth seeing alone but there are also a lot of artifacts and written history to look at inside.  MOFAD was started through a successful Kickstarter campaign back in 2013 and has since highlighted the culinary contributions of the diverse fabric of American chefs in history.  We will have more on some of the other exhibit features in another post but in the meantime check out the Africa Center in person at East 110th and Fifth Avenue from Thursdays through Sundays up until July 17th to get the full experience.  Tickets and more details can be found online at the MOFAD site: LINK
