GREEN HARLEM: NO DOGS AT SAKURA PARK LAWN

Harlem Bespoke: Sakura Park by Riverside and West 122nd Street was mainly gated off during the popular Cherry Blossom season this year in the springtime because it was looking like a big mud pit.  Apparently groups of dog owners had been deciding to meet up here and have their pets run around unleashed. This inadvertently made the small West Harlem green space into a makeshift dog run which basically are void of grass because they get torn up by all the canine traffic.  The fences are down now and thankfully the grass has grown back with signs indicating to the newcomers that the space is not a designated pet zone.  Check out our past post to see what Sakura Park looks like in the springtime when everything is intact: LINK

MEET: COFFEE BARK AT ST. NICHOLAS PARK

Sunday, November 7th, starting 9:00AM-11:00AM, Coffee Bark at the St. Nicholas Park Dog Run by St. Nicholas Avenue, closer to West 136th Street.   Coffee Barks are monthly events for dog owners to meet one another with their pooches, discuss local issues and to help maintain the dog run. These pet people socials are held at the St. Nicholas' Dog Run from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. UPDATE: ADOPT THIS LOST HARLEM PUP

Harlem Bespoke:  The lost or abandoned female husky with blue eyes found at Strivers Row this past weekend is now up for adoption since an owner has not shown up.  Unfortunately the pup was dropped off at the ACC on East 110th Street yesterday so those interested will have to contact the shelter and go through the requisite paperwork.  Everyone is telling us the phone line is hard to get through so sending an email or just showing up might be the best thing to do: LINK

BESPOKE PETS: FOUND DOG ON STRIVERS ROW

Harlem Bespoke:  A Bespoke reader found a beautiful white dog on Strivers Row this weekend.  She was wondering on West 138th Street between Frederick Douglass and Adam Clayton Powell without a collar.  The police mentioned this might be an abandoned pet situation but we are hoping for the better.  Any pet parent out there looking for their lost loved one should contact us for details on how to get in touch with the folks who found the lost pooch.  Otherwise those looking to adopt might want to reach out also: harlembespoke@gmail.com 

BESPOKE PETS: SHOULD CATS QUARANTINE ALSO?

Harlem Bespoke: The main suggestion appears to be that house cats should also quarantine during the current shutdown in the city.  Some owners do let their pets roam outside during the day and this might not be a great time to have such a feline run of the block.  Coronavirus can stay on the surface of fur and thus can be brought inside from the outside if a pet has unlimited access to both environments.  Pedestrians will often try to pet friendly cats when they see one so the scenario does not look good at many angles.  Read more on what veterinarians have to say on the CNN site: LINK
