REMEMBER: THE GOAT HOUSE ON WEST 120TH STREET
Harlem Bespoke: We have been going over so the great uptown historic photos from the past that HB posted almost a decade ago a found this photo of a the happy goat house. Our phone cameras were not that great back then so updated current photos have been added to the story. We now noticed that Teacher's College can be seen in the background so this is actually more towards the middle of the block at a street intersection that no longer exists. Below is our original post from 2011 describing the bucolic scenery:
An archival photo taken circa 1898 shows one of the last country houses that still remained in the Morningside Heights area at West 120th Street when signs of rural life still remained in the area. Goats can be seen lounging on the porch at the address somewhere on the northwest corner of Amsterdam and the photographer probably knew that this was a rare and disappearing scene in the neighborhood around the Columbia University campus. We remember seeing this image up in the deli on Amsterdam and 120th several years ago but did not quite correlate that the photo basically represented roughly that same block over a century ago.

BESPOKE: THE WINTER FARMERS MARKET 2021
Harlem Bespoke: The Morningside Park Farmers Market has been around over 10 years now and recently extended the season into the winter months. A couple of new buildings have sprouted up around the park since that first market a decade ago but what remains consistent is the selection of fresh produce, fish, meats and locally made good from New York City. Cano Coffee has warm cups of pure Colombian coffee for shoppers to sip and the apple cider donuts at Migliorelli are all worth the trip over to the south end of Morningside Park. Make sure to check out the roasted pickled garlic from the pickle stand next time around also see the catch of the day at the fish monger that's usually has a stand. This outdoor pop-up on 110th and Manhattan Avenue runs every Saturday from 10:00AM to 3:00PM and a list of visiting merchant can be found on the official website: LINK

INTRODUCING: BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS 2018
Sunday, October 7th, 11:00 AM Service, 1:00PM-4:00PM Afternoon Fair for The 34th Annual Feast of St. Francis Blessing of the Animals at the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine, 1047 Amsterdam Avenue and 112th Street. St. Francis of Assisi's love of all animals is reflected in the annual October ceremony that blesses all creatures big and small at St. John the Divine. Worshipers arrive with their pets but a menagerie of animals as large as elephants have shown up in the past since the cathedral is the largest one of its kind in the world. Service usually ends by 1:00 PM and the parade of mammals, reptiles and fowl can be seen going down the steps for public viewing. A public fair in the courtyard afterwards also provides an opportunity for pets to be blessed. Get more details on the Cathedrals site: LINK

SHOP: H MART DEBUTS ON 110TH STREET
Harlem Bespoke: The largest Asian supermarket chain in Manhattan has now debuted on 110th Street and Broadway in Morningside Heights. We were the first to announce the H Mart would arrive in Morningside Heights back in September and noticed that the soft opening had happened early on in the week. Everything was about 95 percent stocked but the Far East specialty emporium had more than enough in house to bring in the crowds.
