☞ INTRODUCING: New Look for Just Wingin It

Just Wingin It on FDB/8th Avenue and 118th Street was selected for an extreme make-over show and we ran by it mid process last week: LINK. Construction Intervention, which will be on the Discovery Channel, whips faltering businesses into shape and redesigns and renovates the spaces.

There's still some work being done as of this past weekend but what is apparent at Just Wingin It is that it has a definitively smart new logo that looks more iconic than the commercial chain franchise aesthetic the store had before. The little corner sign at the top of the store provides a signature beacon to the space while all the graphics have been cleaned up to look more streamline and modern. It's a retro industrial biker roadhouse look but done in a sleek modern way. There's a sneak peek of the interior at the last photo. Harlem Bespoke was first on the scene when the construction crew and camera's started working on Just Wingin It's makeover for the Discovery Channel back in January. The above promo is a preview of the series called Construction Intervention in which professionals help local businesses reinvent themselves overnight. The first episode of the series will air on April 13th and the Harlem episode featuring Just Wingin It, located on FDB/8th Avenue and 118th Street will air on April 20th. ☞ SEE: Just Wingin' It on the Discovery Channel

The new Construction Intervention show on the Discovery Channel will focus on South Harlem's own Just Wingin' It in tonight's episode. The second show in the series will feature NYC firefighter Walter Lewis' business on 118th Street and FDB/8th Avenue as it goes through an extreme makeover. Harlem Bespoke was first on the scene during demolition day back in January, and now the episode will officially air tonight at 10:00 PM. ☞ EAT: What's up with Just Wingin It?

When we walked by Just Wingin It on FDB/8th Avenue and 118th Street today, there was a lot construction and gutting of the interior. Does anyone know what's happening with the space? The corner shop was a prime location but it never seemed very busy. Photo by Ulysses

UPDATE: We got the answer today from a fellow reader. Just Wingin It will be part of a makeover show called Construction Intervention which the website states as, "a one-hour, prime time docu-series that follows The Bulldog and his crew as they tackle real life property improvement dilemmas. Every close-ended episode sees The Bulldog and his team travel to a different location to rescue businesses in need whether it be to save owners that are in the midst of lagging construction projects or give existing companies a makeover. The Bulldog meets with the victims of the renovation disaster, does a walk through of the space, assesses the damage and then whips the project into shape. Charlie uses his construction expertise to undo any damage, bring properties back from the brink of total destruction and dress them for success!" Sounds like an extreme make-over for businesses. ☞ EAT: The New Just Wingin It Open for Business

We walked by Just Wingin It on 118th Street and FDB/8th Avenue yesterday and it looks like the restaurant has finally officially opened. The establishment's national debut on the Discovery Channel's Construction Intervention may have gotten the word around since there was a bit of activity at the made-over eatery around lunch time. ☞ EAT: Update at Old Just Wingin It Space

A reader sent in a tip that the old Just Wingin It space at 2190 FDB/8th Avenue will soon be a seafood restaurant with high tech amenities.  A woman on site at the shop at the corner of West 118th Street told our tipster that the menus will all be on iPads and all the delivery staff will carry iPhones. This one appears to be more a takeout joint than an establishment to hang out at based on the size of the space but the concept seems interesting.  An opening is expected in the next couple of weeks but no date has been set yet.

☞ SHOP: Some Activity at Just Wingin It Space

The old Just Wingin It shop at 2190 FDB/8th Avenue and 118th Street has been shuttered for some time now but there appears to have been some activity inside this past week.  This restaurant made national television news back in 2010 when an extreme makeover show attempted to revive the failing business.  Unfortunately the exposure did not help out at the end and the store's gates have been down for some time now. INTRODUCING: HARLEM BURGER CO. ON FDB

The Harlem Pizza Co. on Instagram just announced that they will be opening a sister restaurant at 2190 FDB on the corner of 118th Street.  This looks to be the storefront that was the location of Wingin It a few years back and has since transformed into a fried seafood takeout joint which never seemed to be busy.  We like the Harlem Pizza Co. for the quality of food and updated interiors so expect big changes for this formerly unsuccessful storefront on lower 8th Avenue.  More details about the Harlem Pizza Co. can be found in our past post: LINK

☞ EAT: Doug E.'s Chicken and Waffles Update

A reader mentioned last week that they saw some activity at the long delayed Doug E.'s Chicken and Waffles at 132nd Street and ACP/7th Avenue and we walked by to see if there was any activity to the celebrity eatery. The shutters were partially opened as can be seen in the top photo and a couple of workers were active on the inside. In comparison to recently closed wing shops down on lower FDB/8th Avenue (Just Wingin' It and Atomic Wings), Doug E. Fresh has name recognition and an undeveloped area of Central Harlem to give the new business a push when it does open. For longevity, the food will eventually be what keeps bringing folks in so were are hoping for a great spin on this Harlem original southern fare. Anyone have tips on when to expect an opening? ☞ EAT: Harlem Savour Opens on FDB

Reader tips have been coming in on the new seafood takeout joint that replaces the shuttered Just Wingin It store at FDB/8th Avenue and now it appears that said establishment has opened.  We walked by this week and saw that the eatery was indeed open and another reader sent in the above photo this past Monday.  A few folks were  eating inside which had seating available but the main attraction here is apparently the high tech ordering systems which features iPads.  Has anyone tried Harlem Savour yet?

☞ EAT: Signage Up at New Seafood Shop

More work has been happening at the old Just Wingin It space at 2190 FDB/8th Avenue.  Readers have been reporting a mysterious red "H" letter that has gone up in the past week or so and workers were on site even over the weekend.  A closer inspection at the storefront on the east corner west 118th Street reveals that there are all sorts of sea creatures stenciled into the letter itself.  A high tech seafood joint has been planned for the spot so the logo seems befitting for the venture.
