☞ SEE: James De La Vega's Ode to Picasso
Art buffs will instantly recognize the inspiration for El Barrio artist James De La Vega's mural on the southwest corner building of East 124th Street and Lexington Avenue. Guernica is notably one of Pablo Picasso's most famous work and De La Vega does an exceptional job distilling nuances of East Harlem into his own creation. Some interesting imagery to call out include a christ figure that represents the religious nature of the community and the pitbull that replaces the white bull from the original. Pretty brilliant. The closest subway to this corner of East Harlem is the 4,5,6 station at 125th Street. Photos by Ulysses
