Another of the original elements ripped out during the demolition phase of the Central Harlem renovation house where all of the old doors and they have now been slowly placed back in their original setting. All of them had been removed by the contractor on hand and were stripped of layers of paint and varnish. The solid brass hardware had saved and had layers of tarnish or paint removed as part of the effort to have some of the townhouse's history intact. Most impressive were the parlour pocket doors which were at least 9 feet tall. Other details that have recently returned include the original fireplaces as shown in our previous post: LINK. Those curious about what the doors looked like originally should visit this particular post: LINK

I LOVE these doors ! I have lovely French doors in my place on Sugar Hill, But I just DREAM that there are sliding doors in the walls...One day I will investigate !!
ReplyDeleteThis home will be quite special, the plan to remove, restore and replace these marvelous details will be well worth the effort, great job. I hope this house participates on a house tour one day, would love to se the final results.
