REMEMBER: A MYSTERIOUS HARLEM AVENUE CIRCA 1923
A photo from 1923 shows a mysterious Harlem Avenue either during dusk or dawn. Where can this be? Some the major clues are found to the center of the photo and we will have an update later in the day.
The lower photo shows the site today which is on St. Nicholas Avenue looking south from 145th Street. An old low level parking garage was demolished in the past year and a new school and housing should arrive soon if all goes to plan: LINK

St. Nick
ReplyDeleteLooking south on Saint Nicholas Ave at 145th Street.
ReplyDeleteYou can see City College in the background and the back of the apartment building that is on Hamilton Terrace in the upper right corner.
St. Nicholas Avenue, but I think closer to 140th St.
ReplyDeleteOn another note: Look at how many trees are on Saint Nick back then. Now what do we have, one, maybe two? PLANT MORE TREES ON SAINT NICK BETWEEN 145th and 141st!
ReplyDeleteYeah St Nick and 145th looking south.
ReplyDeleteAnon: trees are difficult with the subway underneath. They'd have to be in raised planters.
ReplyDeleteGC: They were still able to put some trees in there. And I'm all for raised planters. That strip needs TREES!
