Our popular HB series that ranks the top uptown neighborhoods is back for the end of the year count in 2014. Harlem is a large part of Manhattan that changes block by block so we have put together a list of the best micro-nabes based on location, architecture, transportation, local amenities along with record closing prices when applicable. This is our own opinion based on reporting on the neighborhood for a few years and a new post will be made each day until the number one spot has been revealed.
Number 10: The Upper Broadway Corridor, starting just south of 145th Street and up to 150th on Broadway which includes the surrounding brownstone sides streets in Hamilton Heights. This year's entry into the top ten leaps ahead the Lower ACP Corridor which was in the same position in 2013. More activity has been happening over in upper west side of Hamilton Heights these days and new business such as Harlem Public started the ball rolling a couple of years ago along with the Chipped Cup coffee shop. Now a second bar by the Public owners called At The Wallace has opened next door this year and an art gallery has appeared across street. Within less than a couple of blocks, The Handpulled Noodle storefront is nearly completed and Tonalli transformed into Unione.
Further down on 143rd Street, Anchor Wine Bar made a notable debut and the long abandoned PS186 just east on 145ht is finally being restored into housing after almost 30 years since its purchase from the government. As far as subways go, the 1 train at 145th Street is strictly local but connects to the express line at 96th after a few stops.
