Harlem Bespoke: Number 241 West 139th Street went up on the market at the beginning of July for $3.5 million and then SRO had been reduced to $3 million by the end of the month but how much did the landmark townhouse sell for 20 years ago when everything uptown was considered affordable?
Records on Streeteasy show that the closing price back in 1999 was set at $255K which might buy a studio apartment nowadays in a rare affordable building or two. As previously mentioned, there was a record sale last year on Strivers Row for $4 million but that townhouse layout was in a 2-family configuration. No photos in the listing also makes things less intriguing even though the historic Harlem residential blocks built from 1891-1893 are known for private garages out back and charming scenery.
