FILM: HARLEM SERIES ON 7TH AVENUE

Harlem Bespoke:  The Harlem comedy series will be filming again by Strivers Row on Adam Clayton Powell Boulevard today.  This new show appears to not have an official name yet but show runner Tracy Oliver has always been attached to the project.  So expect the usual production vans on the surrounding blocks and possibly new sets created out of existing commercial spaces in the neighborhood like the one that caused quite a stir in the beginning of the year: LINK

FILMING: NEW HARLEM SERIES 2021

Harlem Bespoke:  The Mount Morris Park Historic District on Lenox just below 124th Street has always been a popular location destination for Hollywood and now it looks like two productions will be filming next week.  We are especially curious about the Harlem Series which is only started up for the first season and there is not much information online about the show.  Sometimes the names posted are just placeholders and the show will eventually be called something else later on.  This part of Central Harlem is all landmarked so retro shows like Godfather of Harlem have gravitated towards these blocks in the past: LINK

FILMING: RETRO POSTERS ON 12TH AVENUE

Harlem Bespoke:  We went over to 12th Avenue by 135th Street yesterday to check out the development site at that location and discovered several old posters on a plywood wall.   Ringling Brothers and Ethel Merman were definitely giving a vintage vibe which apparently is part of some movie set.  Even the corner street sign had been altered to 69th Street and more clues for the film were revealed nearby under the viaduct.

FILMING: GODFATHER OF HARLEM 2018

Harlem Bespoke:  Signs have also been posted around Harlem in the lower 120s by St. Nicholas Avenue for the series Godfather of Harlem which will be featured on Epix.  Forest Whitaker has been cast to play notorious gangster Bumpy Johnhson who in the early 1960s tries to grapple control of Harlem from the Italian mob with the help of new politician on the scene named Malcom X.  Godfather of Harlem is probably more fiction than fact but should provide and entertaining glimpse into uptown's storied past.  More details on the show can be found on Variety: LINK
